Cardboard Creatures
You will need:
-
Cardboard packaging and a cardboard box
-
Pencil
-
Scissors
-
Pens, pastels or paint

Method
Cardboard Creatures

1. Choose which animal or dinosaur you wish to make. Think about the overall shape of the animal, for example a giraffe has very long neck and legs, as well as small horn-like tufts on the top of its head. An elephant has a trunk and a big body, with large ears, though its ears should be a separate piece of card.
2. Sketch the body shape of the animal, including the head and tail if it has one, but not the legs.
3. Decide what shape and length the legs should be, draw an upside down U shape for a pair of legs. Ensure that they are not too thin, so that they can support the animals body weight. Draw 2 pairs of legs if required (birds, such as the penguin will require only 1 pair).
4. Draw dotted lines on the animals body where the legs will join and also at the top of the legs so they can slot into place. Do the same for elephants ears, buffalo horns, penguin wings, stegosaurus plates, etc.
5. Cut out all the separate shapes and cut slits along the dotted lines to join the separate sections.
6. Colour the animals using paints, pens or pastels.

Landscape Box Scene
1. Find a box large enough to house your animals.
2. Paint or decorate the box to create a scene of your choice, for example an African savannah, polar snow scene, garden or jurassic landscape.
3. Use paper, card, recycled netting, foil or any other materials you can find to create trees, rivers, lakes, etc.
4. Photograph your scene with the animals in different positions, perhaps creating your own story.
